Description

Accommodations

Frank Butler hit the nail on the head with his design for the Catalina 30. This model has been and still is very popular with the first-time buyer or a season pro. The problem with the boat is when owners have one, they tend to hold on to them for a very long time.

 Lay Out

V-Berth  very comfortable for two and to right behind the berth to port you will h=find a nice head that you have room to move around. Moving aft is the salon with a fold down table to port and to starboard is a settee. Continue on the starboard side you will find the nav station and behind the nav station is an open aft berth for guest. Granted the aft berth does not have privacy door or curtains but remember the guest quarters are not design like the master berth. If it was your guest would near leave! The galley is u-shape and across form the nav station on the portside. Here you will hind a double stainless sink along with a microwave and an Ice box. The previous owner had removed the stove which operated on compress natural gas. They have installed a college dorm refrigerator , Just under the  and near the end on=of the outboard  counter you will find the engine.

Engine

I knew this coming and I am seeing more all the time. Electric cars have started to show up more and more. You even find electric motors on those big deep-sea drilling riggs to hold the riggs in place. Electric motors have started to pop up on vessels.

This Catalina 30 has an Electric Yachts QT 10.0 Sport Motor. There is a separate Battery Bank and separate Battery charger from the house for the engine. The house battery is flooded, and the engine Batteries are AGM. The vessel has no problem making out to Red Fish and back if needed on the electric motor. When sails are up just put the shifter in neutral and the propeller will generator power to charge the batteries.

I was not too sure about this concept but the more I look into the more I see how electric engines for sailboats are starting to take off.
